HOTSPOT PATRONS
Our Mission - Supporting on-the-ground Conservation in the Earth’s most biodiverse places!
Local Players are our Guides - Permanent Protection Status is your Guarantee
We work with those who know best- local community leaders, Indigenous Peoples, in-country experts, nature reserve owners and managers and local nonprofit organizations. Our personal site visits and involvement with our in-country colleagues and field partners, as well as follow up monitoring of projects ensures that your donations arrive on the ground and go towards what they were intended. Investing in permanently protected nature reserves means that even if the land is sold, the protection status – and your investment impact- will remain, lowering investment risk substantially.
Profound Conservation Expertise
Between the founders, our Senior Advisors and Field Partners, there is literally centuries of expertise and experience in the natural and social sciences and in the actual implementation of nature conservation projects. We have all sat down with local community members to listen and learn and know that having local participation is what makes conservation efforts resilient. Whenever possible we will strive to bring direct benefits not only to the plants, animals, and nature reserves, but also to their local communities.
Filling an Empty Niche
HotSpot Patrons is the cumulation of Susan Pierce-Platais’ lifetime passion for nature and search for how to make concrete impacts towards saving our Earth’s biodiversity. After co-founding a rural land trust (an entity that facilitates private lands conservation) that is still in operation today in the USA over 25 years ago and working for a decade in private lands conservation, Susan noted the lack of support globally for conservation on privately-owned lands. Considering 70%-90% of the earth’s remaining unprotected terrestrial plant and animal biodiversity is housed on privately-owned lands, it was evident more needed to be done. HotSpot Patrons was formed to address this gap in conservation financing, helping to fill an empty niche. Focusing on Conservation Imperatives within Biological Hotspots (find out more under “Where We Work”) helps HotSpot Patrons prioritize our efforts to make the biggest conservation impact possible.
